Major General Muhammad Tayyab Azam has a vast experience of Command, Staff and Instructional assignments with 38 years of illustrious career in Pakistan Army.

Experience.
Commissioned as Mechanized Infantry Officer, the General Officer has served in Army Headquarters, Headquarters and various Field Formations. He has rich experience of serving on various key appointments inside and outside the country. He has an extended tenure of serving in restive areas/ war zone in FATA / Kashmir. Details of Key appointments are as under :
General Officer Commanding (GOC) – Defence Security Force (DSF).
UN Force Commander- United Nations Mission in Western Sahara,                                   (MINURSO).
Inspector General Frontier Corps (Scouts)- Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa /                               
Director General Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa (KPK) – Intelligence set up.
Brigade Commander- Infantry Brigade, FATA.
Colonel Staff –         Infantry Division, War Zone.
General Staff Officer Grade-1 (Analysis) – Headquarters ISI, Islamabad.
General Staff Officer Grade-1- Headquarters Pakistan Ranger Punjab. (Operations)
Military Observer- United Nations Mission in Congo, (MONUC).
Bridge Major – Infantry Bridge, War Zone.

Qualifications
Civil Qualifications
Masters in War Studies-National Defence University,     
Masters in International Relations- University of Balochistan,   
Bachelors of Science-Pakistan Military Academy, 
Bachelors of Science (Honours) War Studies- University of Balochistan,Quetta
German Language Diploma- National University of Modern  Languages, Islamabad.

Military Qualfications
Armed Forces War Course -National Defence University,                   
Command and Staff Course – Command and Staff College,      
Mechanized Infantry Commander Course  -Mechanized Warfare School, Germany.
