Pakistan's Netherland Relations

Pakistan and the host country’s Relations

Pakistan and The Netherlands enjoy friendly, longstanding and broad-based bilateral relations, which were established in 1948. Mutual trust and cooperation and respect for diversity are the hallmark of bilateral ties. The Netherlands is an important partner of Pakistan and a key member of the European Union (EU). The
Netherlands also remains Pakistan's one of the key economic and trade partner.
Both the countries enjoy good cooperation at multilateral fora, and have a history of supporting each other's candidatures to different international bodies. The bilateral cooperation is growing in wide range of areas including trade and investment, science and technology, education, agriculture, water management, culture & arts, and climate change. The two countries always stood by each other during the times of natural calamities.
Bilateral relations are governed by the well-established institutional mechanism of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) headed by the Foreign
Secretaries of the two countries. The 11th round of BPC was held in Islamabad on 20 January 2025, in which two sides reviewed entire gamut of bilateral cooperation and also exchanged views on all issues of mutual interest. The two sides also discussed the matters of global and regional significance and agreed to maintain close communication to carry forward bilateral relations.
The Netherlands every year offers training course to junior Pakistani diplomats at the Clingendael Institute, The Hague. The MoU for training programme has been extended for next four years in 2024. So far, more than 150 diplomats have benefited from this great opportunity.
