Do’s
Get registered in the Embassy after coming to the Netherlands.
Respect the Dutch laws, customs and traditions.
Do pay attention and follow national and local advisories issued by the Dutch authorities.
The Dutch institutions work on appointment-based system. Do follow the appointments.
Plan meeting well in advance and be on time; the Dutch are ruled by their agenda which is planned well before and they are very conscious about punctuality.
The Dutch value their physical and personal privacy, respect their personal space.
Must have health insurance and registration with a family doctor.
Don’ts
Do not indulge in any illegal activity.
If it is not possible to meet on appointment, inform well in time at least 24 hours before. (In certain cases, such as medical appointment, there are mandatory fines which cannot be condoned.)
Avoid displaying intolerance towards any ethnic group or alternative lifestyles.
Many Dutch frown upon those who display a sense of superiority. Always show respect to the service providers.
For many, the monarchy is considered to be the heart of their country. Do not criticize the Dutch royal family.
