His Excellency Raza Bashir Tarar, Born in 1964, joined Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1987.
Received professional training 1987-89.
Did Japanese language course from Japan (1989-90)
Has held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan Missions abroad:
Manila (1991-1994), Brussels (1999-2002), Tokyo (2003-2004) and New York (UN) (2008-2013)
While in New York, he also served as Pakistan Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Deputy Representative to the UN Security Council.
Served as High Commissioner of Pakistan to Kenya with concurrent accreditation to Burundi, Eritrea, Rwanda and Uganda from August 2015 to February 2019. He also served as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON) where United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) are headquartered.
While in New York, he represented Pakistan international conferences and has also led Pakistan delegation to different events.
He held different assignments in Islamabad. As Director General (Disarmament) from 2013 to 2015, he led Pakistan’s delegations to various international conferences as well as bilateral disarmament dialogues.
In Nairobi, Ambassador Tarar was elected Vice Chair from the Asia Pacific Group in the UNEP Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) Bureau and Chair of the Group of 77 and China, Nairobi Chapter. At the Third United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-3) he was elected as Rapporteur of the UNEA-4 Bureau; a position he held till his assignment to Canada. He led the Pakistan delegations to UNEA-2 (2016) UNEA -3 (2017) and UN-Habitat’s Governing Council (GC) 26 (2017).
He also led the Pakistan delegation to the Sustainable Blue Economy Conference (SBEC) co-hosted by Kenya, Canada and Japan in Nairobi in November 2018.
He is married and is blessed with two children.
