The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the Netherlands organized a webinar to commemorate “Kashmir Solidarity Day” on 05 February 2022.

 
The speakers at the webinar included Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Director General, ISSI and Former Foreign Secretary, Ali Raza Syed, Chairman of Kashmir Council European Union, Prof. Muhammad Aslam Syed, a known academic and public intellectual. 


The webinar was virtually attended by more than 40 participants including academics, university students and community members. The speakers highlighted the historical, political, legal and human dimension of Jammu and Kashmir dispute and it’s regional and global implications. They were of the opinion that the gross human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) remained a big challenge to the conscience of the international community. Since Indian government’s illegal and unilateral actions of 05 August 2019, the humanitarian and human rights situation in IIOJ&K has sharply deteriorated. 


Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Director General, ISSI elaborated on Kashmiri’s inalienable right to self-determination, continued gross human rights violations in IIOJK, systematic assault by Indian authorities through demographic changes in IIOJK, and importance of international community to act including to achieve peace in a militarized region.   


Ali Raza Syed, Chairman of Kashmir Council European Union asked for removal of black laws by the Indian authorities in IIOJK and in particular raised the issue of recently disappeared journalists in the IIOJK who have been raising their voices against and documenting the Indian atrocities. Mr. Syed encouraged for a more active role by diaspora in this regard.


Prof. Muhammad Aslam Syed focused on the human dimension of situation in IIOJK. He strongly urged the participants to play an active role in a global village with social media tools to highlight the situation of Kashmiris living in a human prison in the IIOJK. 

 
Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Suljuk Mustansar Tarar said that the human rights situation in IIOJK has continued to worsen following India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019. The inhuman military siege, which has remained in place for almost two and a half years now, has resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of Kashmiris. Ambassador Tarar mentioned efforts made by Pakistan’s leadership in highlighting the Jammu and Kashmir issue to the world. He expressed that Pakistan remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people.  


The participants actively participated in the session and also raised some questions which were responded by the panel. Ambassador Tarar thanked the speakers and participants for the discussion and joining Pakistan Embassy to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day.
